The fashions were made in 1986, one year later than the first year of the Jem dolls. That's probably why some posters that came with the dolls has a white back instead of showing the fashions and playsets. The first year boxes of the fashions had artwork of the fashion, while the second year boxes had photographs. Some of the fashions were released both years. Many of the fashions were named after songs from the cartoon, most of those songs were the ones available on cassettes that came with the dolls. Most of the fashions were worn by the characters in the cartoon.
