The Music Awards Part 1
Written by Christy Marx
This years most important music event, the hot rock music award, is coming up. Jem and the Holograms and
the Misfits both compete in the Top New Rock Group category. Eric needs a job, and the Misfits need a
recording contract or they can forget about the award. Pizzazz asks her father to buy them a music company,
across the street from Starlight Music. Deidre and Ba Nee feel neglected by both Jerrica and Jem, and run
away from home, and Krissie comes along to make sure they are alright.
Characters:
Jem/Jerrica and the Holograms, The Misfits, Synergy, Rio, Eric, Lin-Z, Video, Danse,
Techrat, Starlight Girls (Ashley, Ba Nee, Krissie, Deidre, Terri, Lela, Anne, Marianne, Joellen,
Becky, Nancy, Delaree), Harvey, Joanie, Mrs. Bailey, Eric secretary, Jack Sobieski, Danny, Ramón.
Songs:
"She Makes An Impression" Jem and the Holograms
"When It's Only Me And The Music" Jem and the Holograms
"I Am I Giant" The Misfits
Other notes:
Deidre thinks Jem is the greatest, she considers herself Jem and the Holograms number 1 fan, and
dreams of playing with the Holograms when she gets good on guitar.
According to Lin-Z, the hot rock music awards is the most important music event of the year.
According to Eric that award can make the Misfits a career.
Jem and the Holograms and the Misfits are both competing in the top new rock group category. This
means this is probably the first year of the groups, or atleast the first year since their
breakthrough.
Lin-Z describes Jem and the Holograms: "They arrived from nowhere and hit it big with their smooth
vibrant sound", The Misfits: "Rocking it up the charts with their tough rough beat and no nonsense
lyrics".
When Jem and the Holograms got Starlight Music back, they dropped the Misfits recording contract.
Misfits Music comes to be when Harvey lets Pizzazz buy a record company.
Joanie at Starlight Music says, about Misfits music, "maybe it's some other Misfits", is she
referring to the real life band?
There's a scene similar to one of the first scenes in the first episode "The Beginning", when Jerrica comes to
Starlight Music and first meets Eric's secretary, and then Eric and the Misfits inside Eric's office.
Synergy can shoot laserbeams, but she only did because of interference from an outside source, one
of Techrats gadgets.
Jem and the Holograms are introduced to Danse by Video. Danse's real name is Giselle Dvorak, Danse is
just her stage name.
Danse works part time as a volunteer at Haven House, a place for teenage runaways to get off the
streets. If they want help Haven House has counsellors to talk to, but there are too many runaways and
not enough beds.
There's a white grand piano in Starlight Mansion.
Deidre likes Purple Rain, it's the name of a power ballad by Prince, aswell as the name of one of
his albums and a film.
According to the poster made by Danse, the Special Benefit Concert of Haven House starring Jem and
the Holograms, was held August 3, 1986.
One of the Starlight Girls hangouts is a video arcade club, and a fast food restaurant.
According to Aja, Krissie is a sensible girl.
Like in the episode "The Jem Jam Part 2" Krissie seems to be afraid of heights.

The Music Awards Part 2
Written by Christy Marx
The Starlight Girls who ran away, decide to stick with Danny, another teenage runaway they met. Jem and
the Holograms have decided to perform at the Haven House benefit for runaways instead of appearing at the
Music Awards, in the hope that the Starlight girls are going to hear about the benefit. A social worker gives
them until the day of the benefit, but if Deidre, Ba Nee and Krissie aren't there, he will recommend
that all the Starlight girls will be placed in new fosterhomes.
Characters:
Jem/Jerrica and the Holograms, The Misfits, Rio, Eric, Danse, Techrat,
Starlight Girls (Ashley, Ba Nee, Krissie, Deidre, Terri, Lela, Anne, Marianne,
Joellen, Becky, Nancy, Delaree), Danny, Jack Sobieski, Mick, Ramón.
Songs:
"You Oughta See The View From Here" The Misfits
"Runnin' Like The Wind" Jem and the Holograms
"Friend Or Stranger" Jem and the Holograms
Other notes:
The bus where Mick lives, says "Marx Girls School", as in Christy Marx.
The Misfits are pretty good at hanggliding.
The Jem logo is seen with different rainbowcolors like blue and green.
Apparently Jerrica's office is on the very top floor of Starlight Music, right below the Jem sign on
the roof.
The headline of the newspaper that the salesman in the Sounds ETC store, says "Runaway problem on
the increase".

Broadway Magic
Written by Marv Wolfman
Rio reads an article in the newspaper about a new Broadway show, and suggest that Jem and the Holograms
audition for it. Misfits are also auditioning, and to keep Jem and the Holograms out of the way, Eric
goes on TV and offers a reward of $100,000 for anyway who can expose Jem's secret background.
Characters:
Jem/Jerrica and the Holograms, The Misfits, Synergy, Rio, Eric, Lin-Z,
Bob Merrit Broadway director, Bob's secretary, gypsy Mama Pama Bama, workers, taxi driver.
Songs:
"Who Is She Anyway?" The Misfits
"Can't Get My Love Togheter" Jem and the Holograms
"Broadway Magic" Jem and the Holograms
Other notes:
Rio thinks sometimes he and Jerrica is so close, and suddeny they're strangers. He shares his
feelings with another man, apparently one of Rio's friends.
Rio suspects that Jerrica is hiding something from him.
There's a newspaper called "Showbiz Daily" that has the headline "Merrit seeks top rockstars for new
b'way musical".
There's a funny scene where Rio gets so excited that he knocks over a tray of hot dogs.
The Misfits are at a gym for no special reason, although that seems out of character for them,
especially with episodes like "Last Resorts", "Hot Time In Hawaii" and "Danse Time" in mind where
they make it clear that they'd rather take it easy than than workout.
There's a magazine in the Misfits music video of "Who Is She, Anyway?" called "FABS" featuring Jem.
While Eric is on TV, you get to see a TV stores with alot of TV:s, and one of them is showing the
cartoon Inhumanoids, also made by Sunbow.
Stormer is actually moved to tears during the song "Can't Get My Love Togheter" by Jem and the
Holograms.
Synergy warns that in the wrong hands, her holograms could be used for evil and innocent people could
be hurt.
Roxy almost discovers Jem/Jerrica's secret.
Rio actually asks Jerrica if she and Jem are the same person.
Although Jerrica and Rio never say the words "I love you" in the entire series, Jerrica is close to
do so in this episode, when she says "And I thought I love...".
Also, the fake letter that the Misfits write to Jem, supposedly from Rio, says "I love you" to Jem. Since
when does Rio actually love Jem? But Jem doesn't seem to react as she is reading it.
One of the probably all time funniest hologram projections by Synergy is in this episode. When Jem
takes of her "mask" and reveals who she is.
Jem (Jerrica) is great at skateboarding and hang gliding.

In Search Of The Stolen Album
Written by Rick Merwin
Jem and the Holograms are cutting their first big album. The Misfits ask Eric to come up with a way to
stop Jem and the Holograms from releasing that album. Eric sends Zipper to steal it. The Misfits come up with the idea
of anonymously making a treasure hunt out of it, where Jem and the Holograms can search for their album.
Characters:
Jem/Jerrica and the Holograms, The Misfits, Synergy, Rio, Eric, Joanie, Zipper,
Tim recording engineer at the Starlight Recording studio, Gabor's housekeeper Matilda, The Misfits
recording man, Bubba garage owner.
Songs:
"There's A Melody Playin'" Jem and the Holograms
"There Ain't Nobody Better" The Misfits
Other notes:
This must be the first time ever that we get to see something called Starlight Recording Studio,
which almost looks like Starlight Music.
On the building where it says Starlight Recording Studio, inside the star it also says 8603
which to me seems like March 1986, which is probably when this episode was animated.
We get to see Jem and the Holograms perform, and apparently they, just like real singers, need a
few takes, as they're on take 14 when the episode starts.
Apparently the Holograms do some singing aswell, more than in the background, as Aja keeps singing
a bit of the lyrics before Jem stops her when Jem wants to start over.
There's a magazine called "Music Bizz" where Jem and the Holograms are featured.
It's not only Jerrica who works at Starlight Music, the rest of the Holograms do aswell.
Aja talks to someone on the phone called Sean who apparently does the album cover art for Jem and
the Holograms, or atleast for their first big album.
There are sheets music of Jem and the Holograms music at the Starlight Recording Studio, I
can't read music, but it would be interesting to see what it would actually sound like. The sheets
say 1986.
When Jerrica and the Holograms are looking through phone books, they find Mirage Garage which is
apparently at 470 Way Out There Blvd. Ca.
Other things that can be read in the phone book is "Audi" and "Volkswagen". And there's an ad that
says "March of Dimes Saves Babies, Please help fight birth defects".
Synergy has a scanner that can analyze notes and some how find out some info about them.
Jem and the Holograms are number one in the "Music Bizz" magazine.
The rest of the artists on the top then list resembles exactly the top ten list from the episode
Glitter and Gold, where the Misfits are number one though.
Number 2 is some artist called Pauper
(Cindy Lauper?), 3 is
Bruce Fallsteen (Bruce Springsteen), 4 The Moss Covered Stones (The Rolling Stones), 5 Mundanna
(Madonna), 6 Rodents (can't be seen here but in the other episode), 7 Iron Fading (Iron Maiden),
8 Twisted Brother (Twisted Sister), 9 The Roomoans (The Ramones), 10 Tom Potty and the Head Breakers
(Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers).
The song "There's A Melody Playin'" by Jem and the Holograms and the song "There Ain't Nobody Better"
by the Misfits is the same song, except for the lyrics and groups, this was done intentionally
because of the story of the episode.

Hot Time In Hawaii
Written by Beth Bornstein
Jem and the Holograms receive an invitation to the annual Battle of the Music Stars, to be held in
Honolulu, Hawaii. The winner receives a trophy and the chance to perform at the governors mansion. The
Misfits who have also been invited, hire Zipper as their coach to train them in the art of cheating.
Characters:
Jem/Jerrica and the Holograms, The Misfits, Rio, Starlight Girls
(Ashley, Krissie, Deidre), Zipper, Coach Steve, Giselle, Don Lo commentator.
Songs:
"We're The Misfits In Hawaii" The Misfits
"How You Play The Game" Jem and the Holograms
Other notes:
The Misfits don't like to exercise, except for Stormer.
Zipper doesn't care about the Misfits.
Kimber is a really good swimmer.
Kimber gets kidnapped.

The Princess And The Singer
Written by Christy Marx and Ellen Guon
Jem and the Holograms have been invited to perform for princess Adriana, who will be crowned queen of
Morvania on her 18th birthday in one week. But her royal cousin doesn't approve, and is determined to
stop it. Eric and the Misfits are also going to Morvania, as tourists, but Eric is working on a plan.
When Adriana runs away to the market place, she runs into her exact look-alike, Kimber.
Characters:
Jem/Jerrica and the Holograms, The Misfits, Eric, princess Adriana of Morvania, Lexa,
Dimitrios, Corven royal guard.
Songs:
"Here Comes Trouble" Jem and the Holograms
"The Queen Of Rock And Roll" The Misfits
Other notes:
Morvania is a made up country. Apparently it's a small country and has a royal family. The country
Morvania also appears in other cartoons, where it is loacted somwhere between Bosnia Herzegovina,
Serbia and Montenegro, Albania, and Macedonia.
Kimber has an exact lookalike in Adriana, not even her own sister can tell them apart. But their
voices are slightly different. But then Jerrica can't even tell the difference between Kimber's and
Stormer's voice.
Adriana says she will be 18 years old in one week. Considering that Kimber is her exact
lookalike, one might also take for granted that Kimber is the same age.
Kimber is not included in the music video of "Here Comes Trouble" by Jem and the Holograms.
Kimber gets kidnapped again.
Once again we get an example of what a good swimmer Kimber is, and diver, and very brave.
Other episodes with lookalikes are "One Jem Too Many" and "The Fan".
We get to hear part of what could be a Jem song, when Jem and the Holograms rehearse with the wrong
Kimber. It's a shame it wasn't made into a song, it has a nice intro.
Eric and the Misfits save Jem, Aja, Shana and the princess' life.
Yet another example where Jem projects a hologram which is clearly visable and unrealistic to a group
of people who don't know about Synergy. No one saw it came from Jem though.

Island Of Deception
Written by Mary Skrenes
Jem and the Holograms are going on a cruise on the way to their next concert. The Misfits go along to
find out what they're up to. After a failed result of one of the Misfits tricks, both groups fall overboard
and end up on a deserted island. Now Jem and the Holograms have to get along with the Misfits and survive.
Characters:
Jem/Jerrica and the Holograms, The Misfits, Rio, Eric,
Starlight Girls (Ashley, Ba Nee, Krissie, Deidre, Terri, Lela, Marianne, Joellen, Becky, Nancy,
Delaree), captain Warren of the "Bahama Queen", Angus Bean, Krebbs.
Songs:
"Set Your Sails" Jem and the Holograms
"It Takes Alot" The Misfits
Other notes:
Eric hates the sea.
Stormer almost discovers Jem's secret when she is rescued by Jerrica.
Synergy's transmission gets blocked too deep under water.
Jerrica was a girlscout.
Pizzazz knows how to clear a fish.
Kimber is afraid of Spiders, Stormer isn't.
Stormer says a title of a Jem and the Holograms song, "Love's Not Easy" and Kimber repeats that
line, which is the title of Jem song that was
yet to come in many episodes later, and this episode only had two songs.
We get to see Rio unshaved. Apparently purple isn't his real hair color since his beard is not purple.
Jerrica figures out in advance that Rio can't hug a hologram, so she makes sure she is Jerrica, and
since Jem has to be there too, she makes a hologram of Jem next to her.
Kimber suggests that Jem and the Holograms and the Misfits become friends and Stormer practically
agrees, but Roxy and Pizzazz don't.
Although the fashions worn by the Holograms and the Misfits are ruined in this episode, several of
them appear fixed up in later episodes.

Old Meets New
Written by Sandy Fries
An old guy in the audience loudly complains about Jem and the Holograms' performance of their version of
a number that was written in 1964. That person appears to be Bobby Bailey from the group the Tornados, and
was the one who wrote song. He takes to show Jem and the Holograms what used to be the Tornados' recording
studio. The building is just about to be torn down, by the new owner, Eric, who plans to build the biggest
record album factory on the east coast.
Characters:
Jem/Jerrica and the Holograms, The Misfits, Eric, Video, Bobby Bailey musician,
Torch, mickey, Carl Sanford councilman, Mr. Wellington head of the historical socitey.
Songs:
"Rock And Roll Is Forever" Jem and the Holograms
"Jack, Take A Hike" The Misfits
"Let's Not Forget The Past" Jem and the Holograms
Other notes:
Jem and the Holograms are presenting a song as being a cover of an old song written in 1954 around
the time rock and roll started, "Rock and Roll Is Forever", which doesn't exist in reality though and
was only created for this episode.
Bobby Bailey, the one who supposedly wrote the song "Rock and Roll Is Forever", thinks Jem and the
Holograms did a lousy cover, that they got the song all wrong, and that they really stunk. Still,
when this song is re-used in a later episode "Journey Through Time", Jem and the Holograms changed
nothing.
Kimber: "What good is a guitar if you can't plug it in". Kimber has played an acoustic guitar several
times in other episodes though, like the first episode "The Beginning".
Eric thinks it's relaxing to tear down old buildings.
Bobby Bailey and the Tornados recorded atleast five gold records.
Pizzazz doesn't seem to like cats very much.
Kimber shows some interest for law. She digs into real estate, and finds out that a neighbourhood
was owned as a residental area, and no one can build a factory in a residental zone. And
also that a historical landmark can never be demolished. Aja is worried about Kimber, she has been
spending 8 hours doing research in the courts public archives, and Jerrica hopes she is not sick.
Jem thinks there's something unique about the energy and style of the early rock and rollers, today's
rock and rollers owe alot to the musicians who created rock and roll.

The Jem Jam Part 1
Written by Christy Marx
The most legendary stars of rock and roll has agreed to join Jem and the Holograms in the most exciting
musical event of the year, the Jem Jam. They will all stay at Starlight Mansion. Ashley dreams away of
forming her own band some day, and Ba Nee dreams about finding her father. To give Jem bad publicity the
Misfits uninvitedly crash the opening party along with a violent gang who claim to be Jem's fans.
Characters:
Jem/Jerrica and the Holograms, The Misfits, Rio, Eric, Lin-Z, Video, Clash, Danse,
Techrat, Starlight Girls (Ashley, Ba Nee, Krissie, Deidre,
Terri, Lela, Anne, Marianne, Joellen, Becky), Johnny Deacon,
Luna Dark, Roland Owens, Lena Learner, Dominic, Ron Cox, Randy James drummer, punks (D.R., Quinch).
Songs:
"I Can See Me" Ashley
"A Father Should Be" Ba Nee
Other notes:
Diguise time for Clash again.
Ba Nee's mother told her that her father is an american with red hair.
Ashley dreams of her own band with the Starlight Girls Lela on drums, Deidre on guitar, and Becky on
keyboard, and Ashley herself singing and playing guitar.
According to Jerrica there is plenty of room in Starlight Mansion, all the Jem Jam stars
Johnny Deacon, Luna Dark, Roland Owens, Lena Lerner, Dominic, Ron Cox are staying there.
Krissie has her own room on the second floor.
According to Randy James, Ba Nee is a vietnamese name.
Apparently Starlight Mansion has a helipad.
Harvey Gabor has a garage for three cars and two of thems seems to be of expensive kind.
For the first time, Jem comes to Gabor's mansion, uninvited though.
Harvey Gabor has three Doberman Pinscher as guard dogs walking around the mansion unleashed.
According to Christy: Dominic was based on a young Michael Jackson. Also the other
celebrities in this episode was based on real musicians of the time. Roland Owens is Stevie Wonder.
Ron Cox is Mick Jagger. Lena Learner is Tina Turner. Luna Dark is Madonna, which was originally
supposed to be called Cherry Bomb but Christy was forced to change it. Luna Dark is a double joke,
because it's like lunar and dark, but also in Australia there's an amusement park called Luna Park.
Johnny Deacon is Bruce Springsteen. Randy James is not based on any musician.
It was Hasbro's idea to give the Starlight Girls their own songs,
this was connected to the fact that Hasbro decided to make dolls of these girls, which were
originally created by Christy.
Anthony Julian is a joke on Christy's stephson Julian Anthony.
The song "A Father Should Be" by Ba Nee, says alot about how Christy felt about her own father.
What we see in the music video of "A Father Should Be" is not Ba Nee's memories since she was just a
baby when she was still in vietnam.
Early in Christy's career she worked on a project called "The children of An Loc", a true story
about two women in vietnam who saved an orphanage of children in An Loc, one of the women played
herself in the movie, and she had adopted three vietnamese girls one which was named "Ba Nee".
A whole scene was cut out of this episode, which showed how Clash got into Starlight Music and
obtained the information.

picking her up at the airport claiming to be Jem's chaffeurs. Krissie doesn't get along with one of
the performers son, who expect her to treat him like a superstar. From what Ba Nee remembers that her mother
once told her, she is certain one of the performers is her father. The Misfits plan to upstage the Jem Jam
with one of Techrat's new gimmicks.
Characters:
Jem/Jerrica and the Holograms, The Misfits, Rio, Eric, Techrat, Starlight Girls

D.R.

"Gimme A Gimmick" The Misfits
"Jam All Night Long" Jem and the Holograms
Other notes:
The guarddogs at Gabor mansion do not respond to Pizzazz.
This episode starts on a friday.
Ba Nee was born in An Loc, a small town in the south of Vietnam, located approximately 90 km north
of Saigon.
In opposite to the first part of the Jem Jam in the music video of "I Can See Me" by Ashley, here when
the Ashley and the Starlights rehearse, Becky is on drums instead of Lela, and Lela is on the piano.
Dominic can't swim.
Krissie is scared of heights.
The record player in the music video "Gimme A Gimmick" by the Misfits says "SANY" instead of "SONY".
We get to hear several new singing voices, male and female in this episodes.

Culture Clash
Written by David Wise
Jem and the Holograms are shooting their new music video in New York. The Misfits intend to make sure
their stay is a disaster. But that doesn't seem to be necessary, since Fitzgerald Beck, their video
director, is quite a disaster.
Characters:
Jem and the Holograms, The Misfits, Eric, Video, Anthony, Fitzgerald Beck artist,
Maria Castello art dealer and night club owner, Alex Falk.
Songs:
"Surprise! Surprise!" The Misfits
"I Believe In Happy Endings" Jem and the Holograms
Other notes:
According to Fitz, great art doesn't happen without suffering.
Eric and Video are great fans of Fitz.
We get to hear a part that is not included in the song "Surprise! Surprise!" by the Misfits, that
says "wait till you see what's in store for you".
Fitz is in love with Jem, but Jem says there is someone else. Could it be Rio? But Rio is with
Jerrica.
The fact that Jem and the Holograms have to travel by airplane to get to New York shows that they
don't live there. On the other hand the Holograms were pretty quick to get to Misfits Music and then
back to New York.

Glitter And Gold
Written by Christy Marx
Kimber accidentally double books a date on Saturday night at six a clock, with Rio's friend Max and Jeff.
The Misfits are set to compete in the Glitter and Gold contest, in which the first band to sell 500,000
records wins a gold album award and the Glitter and Gold roadster. No group has been set to compete with
the Misfits, but if Jem and the Holograms are able to cut a new album in time for the contest, they are in.
Characters:
Jem/Jerrica and the Holograms, The Misfits, Synergy, Rio, Eric, Lin-Z, Video, Clash,
Starlight Girls (Ashley, Ba Nee, Krissie, Deidre, Lela, Anne, Marianne, Becky, Nancy, Delaree),
Anthony, Jeff, 5th Avenue boys (Joe, Jay, Tom), Max Connelly photographer, Owen Beach owner of the Diskovery
records, The Skulls.
Songs:
"How Does It Feel" The Misfits
"Glitter 'N Gold" Jem and the Holograms
"We're Up/You're Down" Jem and the Holograms/The Misfits
Other notes:
The Misfits' new single is at the top of the charts on the top ten list of a magazine called
"Music Bizz", number 2 is some artist called "Pauper" (Cindy Lauper), 3 is
"Bruce Fallsteen" (Bruce Springsteen), 4 "The Moss Covered Stones" (The Rolling Stones), 5 "Mundanna"
(Madonna), 6 "Rodents", 7 "Iron Fading" (Iron Maiden), 8 "Twisted Brother" (Twisted Sister),
9 "The Roomoans" (The Ramones), 10 "Tom Potty and the Head Breakers" (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers).
Jem and the Holograms haven't put out a new album in ages according to Kimber. It's been so long that
there's an article in a magazine called Music Bizz with the title "Where's Jem?". It says
"Whatever happened to Jem and the Holograms, the once popular group has disappeared from the music
scene". According to Eric, Jerrica ruined Jem's career.
Jerrica is tired about hearing about Jem.
The Misfits entered the Glitter and Gold contest held by Diskovery records, before Jem and the
Holograms did.
Synergy thinks that Rio doesn't know that Jem and Jerrica is the same person and that if he found
out he would get so upset he would never talk to Jerrica again.
Jerrica decides to reveal that she and Jem are the same person.
Rio kicks over a pot outside of Starlight Mansion when he's angry, according to Christy Marx
this childish behaviour of Rio was not in her scripts and she wouldn't have tolerated it.
The 5th Avenue boys are signed to Starlight Music. Jerrica is their manager.
The 5th Avenue boys is an injoke by Christy Marx about some of the people who worked on Jem, they
worked on the street 5th Avenue and their names are Jay Bacal (creative director), Tom Griffin
(executive producer) and Joe Bacal (executive producer). Jay Bacal was Joe's son and Christy worked
closely with him on many Sunbow shows.
This episode introduces Hasbro's "Glitter and Gold" Jem and Rio dolls, the Roadster and the fashions.
Jem and the Holograms' new album is called "Glitter 'n Gold", it uses Hasbro's GNG Jem logo.
Eric offers the band the Skulls a recording contract with Misfits Music.
Shana speaks a line in the song "We're Up/You're Down" by Jem and the Holograms/The Misfits, which
is voiced by Britta Phillips.
Both Jem and the Holograms and the Misfits sold half a million records.
Christy and the others who worked on Jem during the time the "Glitter And Gold" series was introduced
into the Jem line, had to use a codename, "Ruby Red", when talking about Glitter And Gold, to keep
companies like Mattel from stealing ideas and releasing something similar for Barbie.
