When Miguel tells Raya about the talent search, and that anyone can try, the hair behind and
below his right ear is skin colored.
Trivia:
Hasbro wanted to add new dolls to the doll line, and told Christy what they looked like
and what instrument they were going to play.
Christy was told Raya was going to be a hispanic doll, and Jetta would play a saxophone.
When Hasbro first told Christy about the new character Raya, she started looking up "Raya"
to see if it meant anything in Spanish, she didn't find much that made sense. So Christy
came up with the idea of Raya just being a nickname that her father gave her. The last
name Alonso was the name of a hispanic person Christy knew who owned a big kite factory.
Shana plays both guitar and drums, but until this episodes she hadn't played guitar in ages
according to herself. Kimber plays drums aswell, but Aja or Jerrica don't.
Shana doesn't take part of any of the songs in this episode.
Christy was very much into designing clothes as a child. So it was only natural for
Christy to come up with that for Shana.
Liz Stratton was not directly based on any person, but Christy had said to the animation
artist to think of Joan Collins.
This episode about a talent search was of course long before talent shows like American
Idol.
The Starlight Girls help Jem and the Holograms with promotion.
The Misfits went looking at clubs for a fourth member only to top Jem and the Holograms and
their talent search. Stormer liked the idea of a fourth Misfit, because it means a new instrument, a
fuller sound, more complex music, Roxy didn't.
Jetta was first meant to play bass guitar before it was changed to a saxophone.
Jetta was part of the band Tinkerbillies before she joined the Misfits. "Tinkerbilly" is derogatory
slang for a pseudo-rock'n'roller someone pretending to be something he's not.
The first song Jetta played with the Misfits was before she was actually a member,
"I Like Your Style".
When the Misfits first meet Jetta, she doesn't have a work permit which means she can't
legally work in the USA. But Harvey Gabor's lawyers took care of that.
Christy wanted to make Jetta black, and took this up on a meeting with Sunbow who didn't
think it would be a good idea to have a black character as a bad guy, but she could be
British or Australian. Christy couldn't help laughing at them about it, but decided to go
for British.
It was important for Christy to have a real British actor play the part of Jetta, and
not an american making a bad accent. Sunbow decided to do auditions and send the
recordings of the finalists to Christy, for her to pick the voice actress she wanted.
Sunbow sent Christy a tape of four different women who had read for the part of Jetta, and
the three first were americans doing bad british accents, but the fourth was British
actress Louise Dorsey (a relative to the famous composer Engelbert Humperdinck). Christy
told Sunbow she wanted Louise, and so she got the part.
Craig came back to the USA from Europe just in time for the Talent Search, to visit his sister
Stormer.
Christy's notes to the animation artists for animating the character Craig
Phillips was "muscular, devastatingly handsome, and since Craig is actually Stormer's
brother you may wish to draw him with subtle facial resemblances, same hair and eye
color".
When Liz Stratton says orange is her unlucky color, it's an injoke by Christy who was
married to Peter Ledger at the time who was working on an animated movie called "the
Chipmunks", painting backgrounds, and one of the producers decided that she didn't like
the color orange, so he could no longer use orange when he painted backgrounds.
In the music video "Believe in Yourself" by Jem and the Holograms, we get to see Raya playing drums
as a little child, she had the same haircolor even then.
When Raya discovers Jem's real identity she actually recognizes who Jerrica is, which probably means
Jerrica is kinda famous too.
Raya always wanted sisters, she has three brothers.
With all the orphans on the show, Christy liked the idea of throwing an entire
functional family into the mix, Raya's family.
One of the original ideas Christy had for this episode was for one of Raya's brothers to
get involved with gangs and stealing the Rockin' Roadster from Jem. But that idea was cut
out because they had too much material already.
Raya has blue eyes, while the rest of her family has brown eyes.
One of the other contestants of the Talent Search, the female one who says she played
with bands like Static Moss, the Big Apes and the Nasties, was for some reason described
in detail by Christy in her script as a "tough girl, tough looking, nasty voice, young
woman wearing black leather and red lace, with black hair and a small red arrowpierced
heart painted on her cheek", and the animator went with it.
The song "I've Got My Eye On You" by Jem and the Holograms is re-used. Previously appeared in the
episode "Kimber's Rebellion".

Trivia:
Kimber keeps a diary. Here she sometimes writes down thoughts that turn into songs.
Jetta suggests that Roxy reads what Kimber says about her in Kimber's diary, but Roxy says
she wouldn't waste her time. In a later episode "Roxy Rumbles" we find out the reason for this, Roxy
can't read. On the other hand, later in this episode she has been able to pick out certain
pages of Kimber's diary with "dirt".
According to Kimber's diary, Roxy isn't dumb, but ignorant. Pizzazz is a rich spoiled brat.
Shana can be ridiculously insecure about her talent. Kimber thinks Aja is cold and sometimes wonders
if she has any feelings at all. Sometimes Kimber wishes Jem was her sister instead of Jerrica.
Sean thinks Kimber is a child in spirit but her work is quite mature.
Sean has nothing but the highest regards for Kimber, he respects her as a person and an artist.
He doesn't think Pizzazz is a real woman and wouldn't sing a song that she wrote.
There's an issue of the magazine Cool Trash that says "Jemstar chilled! Exclusive! Kimber loves
Sean! 'I could care less' he says!".
We get to hear Sean's band play a little music, but no singing.
Kimber gets her own new identity when she asks Synergy to change her into someone hard and mean,
someone who can never be hurt.
Synergy reveals that Emmett Benton told her many things about Kimber, he hoped she'd be strong,
she was a born charmer, from the beginning she enchanted everyone even butterflies, she was
sensitive and suffered when she saw pain, but the knocks and scrapes of childhood did
not stop her, she was creative, she was drawn to music and writing, she was often frustrated
but kept at it. When she was eleven she had her first big test, she had written a song for the
school talent show, but some unruly boys made fun of her as she began her sensitive ballad,
she had been proud of her song, but now she was humiliated, backstage her father gave her a
peptalk, she went back out there and the audience loved her, at that moment her father knew
she could survive in the music business, he was very proud. What he said according to Kimber
was "be true to yourself, believe in your song, and give the whole audience a chance".
Kimber can write a song in only one day, as also seen in "Father's Day".
The song "She Makes An Impression" by Jem and the Holograms is re-used. Previously appeared in the
episode "The Music Awards Part 1".

Trivia:
There's an attic in Starlight Mansion.
Emmett Benton seems to have been a good baseball player, in a box marked "dad" on the attic,
there's a baseballtrophy.
Did they really have any material left, like photos from Starlight House?
In the music video of "Something Is Missing", Kimber and Emmett are shown at a house with a
pool in the backyard. The animators might have taken for granted that Kimber grew up in
Starlight Mansion.
According to old clips, Emmett played a lot with kites with Jerrica and Kimber.
Kimber took her father's death very hard. He was very dear to her, as can be seen also in the
episode "Scandal".
Kimber started playing guitar when she was a little girl.
In the music video "Something Is Missing", The Holograms are performing without Raya, Jem is
the only one with a mike, and Kimber plays guitar.
The music video of "Something Is Missing In My Life" by Jem and the Holograms, was
storyboarded by Victoria Jenson, who has later worked as a co-director on Shrek. The
music video of "Let's Blow This Town" by the Misfits was storyboarded by Will Meugniot.
Mulberry is the name of the town where Clash and Video grew up, and where their parents
still live. Except, no word about Clash's mother. That's because nothing was ever established about
Clash's mother, according to Christy Marx it was because Clash was a pretty minor character.
Roger Slifer had wanted Clash's father's house to have been a little more "wild" than
being purple, to reflect the taste of Clash and her family.
Clash had told her father that she was part of the Misfits.
Clash's father calls her Clash and not by her real name. He lives in a big house. He adores
her. She is his only daughter.
Video's mother calls her Vivian. Video's parents live almost next to Clash's father, only one house
inbetween.
Looking at the old tapes in Video's parent's house, they say Video was two years old when Clash
came home from the hospital, but according to the Jem bible they were born at the exact same time.
Video got her first camera from her parents on her 10th birthday. She had the same hairstyle
even then. That was the day Clash got her first musical instrument, the cymbals (bigger ones than
she's got in Starbright).
Video sees her father as an inspiration for her career, as he always made home movies.
Video's father has taken alot of abuse from his brother Buzz.
In this episode Roger Slifer wanted to show how Video and Clash never got along even
from the beginning, and showing where Video's influence came from for wanting to
videotape.
For once, the Misfits appear first in a place, before Jem and the Holograms, and without
knowing they were going to arrive, and for a reason of their own.
Kimber used to love to be at Christy's stables when Emmett was alive.
Kimber's favorite horse was called Lucky, it's white with a horse shoe symbol on it's forehead.
When Harvey mentions "Doc Martin", it's an injoke by Roger Slifer who is referring to
the color inks people used when making comic books.
Pizzazz's father reveals to Jerrica and the Holograms that he has raised Pizzazz on his own
and spoiled her, and that she has been uncontrollable since her mother walked out on them.
It was years ago and ever since that Pizzazz has seemed to resent the world.
Old clips show that Pizzazz had the same lime colored hair even has a child.
Roger Slifer really likes the song "Always There In My Heart" by Jem and the Holograms.
It was storyboarded by Victoria Jenson.
The song "Something Is Missing In My Life" by Jem and the Holograms is re-used. Previously appeared
in the episode "Adventure In China".
