Jem Appearances

Jem on "Married with Children"

In one of the earlier episodes of "Married with Children", Marcy manage to lose her Barbie doll. So she sends out her husband Steve and dear neighbor Al Bundy to search for it.

The pictures aren't very clear, but you can tell for sure it's a Barbie doll, in a Rock 'n Curl Jem doll's outfit.

Doll on motorcycle Close up Owners show up
After some searching, Steve and Al find a doll on a motorcycle. They decide to untie it. That's when the owners of the motorcycle and doll show up, who aren't very happy about their doll being stolen.
Wrong doll! Search continues
When Steve and Al finally gets back, Marcy tells them it's the wrong doll. So they have to go out again and start all over.

Destiny's Child singing Jem

The group Destiny's Child made an appearance on a show called "The Zone" on the canadian channel YTV, which aired thursday 14 september 2000. Here's a reply from YTV:

"Hi there!
Thanks for writing to YTV. Sorry that it has taken us so long to respond but we get thousands and thousands of e-mails a week and sometimes it is difficult to answer as quickly as we would like.
Destiny's Child Appeared on The Zone. They said they used to watch Jem and then Jenny sang the theme song with them.
YTV no longer airs Jem. Our contract for it has expired which means that we no longer have the rights to air it.
Thanks for watching

Jem on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno

On his 99 cents segment Jay Leno took up one of those Super Stars dolls that had leftover parts from Jem and Maxie dolls saying:

"Oh here's a cheap doll, this is a Superstar! Look at this, it says super star doll, and look she's a superstar. Look at this thing. She realized how to be a superstar in this town, take your top off apparently. I don't know why. And with the yellow boots. But it's only 99 cents. Kevin, that big blow up you've got, what did you pay for that? What'd you pay like 80 bucks?".

This particular doll didn't seem to have any of the leftover parts or clothes from the Jem doll line though. It had some other body and a curly purple haired female head.

Anime Jem

To the right is a picture of what Jem could look like as a character in an anime (a Japanese cartoon). Just think of the possibilities, all those ideas the writers weren't allowed to use, as having a black bad girl, a boy with an alcoholic father, or Techrat being a androgenous character. Not that Jem haven't stretched the limits already.

We've already got a taste of what characters from Jem would look like as anime. Not the main characters though. But at the end of the episode "Starbright Part Three, Rising Star", the audience that comes out from the movies after seeing the Misfits movie, look like they came right out of an anime show. The drawing style looks completely different from what any of the regular characters usually looks like.

Also in the episode "Scandal", there's a flashback with a younger Kimber. But here she doesn't look anything like she does in the other flashbacks in any other episodes.

Real Life Jem Look Alikes

Take a look at some "real life" singers who look like the Jem characters. Whether their looks has been based on Jem or not, it's still funny to see how much some of them look like Jem, or atleast to see artists that dare to color their hair in these unusual haircolors.

Gwen Stefani

The singer from No Doubt colored all her hair pink for a while, as can be seen in the music video to "Ex girlfriend".

Pink

A singer called Pink, whose first released single was "There You Go".

Samantha Fox

Here's some pictures from the 80's, of the singer Samantha Fox with parts of her hair in pink.

Meja

Meja has released two albums, and is most known for her hit song "All 'Bout The Money". She has sung the duet with Ricky Martin "Private Emotion", as the international version of the single and music video. The pink hair in the picture is caused by the lights at a performance, while she actually is all blond. But the interesting thing is that she looks pretty much like Britta Phillips (the singing voice of Jem), and backwards her name "Meja" can be pronounced as "A Jem".
