Jem on DVD

Jem fans had to wait all the way to 2002 until a few episodes were released on DVD. The UK was first, but with only two episodes, then Sweden. In 2004, after alot of begging and petitions by Jem fans, Rhino finally put out 45 episodes on DVD. But since Rhino failed to put out the last bunch of episodes, it wasn't until 2010 that we got the later episodes including the Stingers in good quality, but in French. And finally the entire series was released in English on DVD in 2011.

Includes Norwegian and Danish voices, which was a great bonus.

Jem Et Les Hologrammes, 2010 by Déclic Images and Manga Distribution (France):

The second attempt to release the Jem series in French, now by another company. Each of the three boxes contain four discs. The episode "Father's Day" is missing, making the total 64 episodes. But this was the first time Jem fans were able to get the last episodes including the Stingers in good picture quality, in French though. The picture quality is not near as good as the US release by Rhino. The first 8 episodes do not have the extra scenes, opposite to the american DVD's. The cover art of the boxes was done particularly for these boxes and looks outrageous, each DVD has it's own images of one character, and all characters are pictured except for Jetta and Roxy.

Jem and The Holograms: The Truly Outrageous Complete Series, October 11/2011 by Shout! Factory:

All 65 episodes on 11 discs set.

Bonus material include: Interviews about show creation with Christy Marx, Roger Slifer, Joe Bacal, Tom Griffin, Will Meugniot, Barry Harman and Britta Phillips. Interviews with the voice cast: Samantha Newark, Patricia Alice Albrecht and Michael Sheehan. Interviews with self proclaimed Jem fans. 5 animated storyboards. Original commercials. Video jukebox. Complete Jem Bible (except for the art).

The process of releasing this set has been superfast, since it was first announced in March 22 of 2011. Although this set was officially released on October 11, free copies were handed out in advance to the fans in the US who contributed material. It's currently available to order on their website, for US residents only.

This set is also released by seasons separately, with a carton box cover on top of the plastic cover. Season one was released on october 11, 2011, season two on february 14, 2012, and season three on July 10, 2012.

Just like the Rhino DVD set, this DVD box also has a holographic cover with redrawn art. Other than that, they used old art that was made to market to cartoon, like the art on the Promotion Pictures pages, aswell as screen captures taken directly from the cartoon. The discs are made to look like records in different colors for each box.

The DVD menus are designed in a nice Jem style, even if slightly rushed with pixelated graphics. As for the episodes themselves... the picture quality isn't remastered like the Rhino DVDs, which means the original colors are there.
